Mechanical Engineer:

​

We are seeking a licensed Mechanical Engineer  with experience in HVAC system design to join our team. This role involves full project lifecycle responsibility—from schematic design through construction administration—on a variety of institutional and commercial projects.

​

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC load calculations and ventilation analysis to support equipment selection

  • Design HVAC systems including hydronic systems and air distribution

  • Develop construction drawings (AutoCAD and Revit) and specifications

  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and other disciplines throughout design

  • Support bidding and construction phases, including submittal review, RFIs, and site visits

​

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience: 4+ years of HVAC design experience in the A/E industry

  • Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to obtain North Carolina licensure within 6 months

​

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam

  • Experience with HVAC load and energy modeling software (Trace 700 or 3D)

  • Strong understanding of:

    • HVAC system design and controls

    • Hydronic and airside distribution systems

​

Plumbing Engineer

 

Cheatham and Associates, PA in Wilmington, NC is seeking a plumbing engineer. Primary duties include domestic water, waste and vent, and natural gas piping systems design for new buildings and building renovations.  This position is unique in that it is hands on, from design beginning at schematic phase, assisting the client through design and bidding, observing the project’s construction, to project completion and closeout.   Many of our projects help improve our community such as K-12 Schools, Higher Ed Schools, and Fire Stations.  We also design other types of Municipal Buildings, Office Buildings and more.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Work with owners to design new or upgrading plumbing systems.

  • Provide Design Calculations for pipe sizing.

  • Design and prepare Plumbing drawings and specifications.

  • Coordinate with other members of the team, both within the company and outside parties such as architects, structural engineers, and civil engineers.

  • Communication with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, such as local plan review and inspectors to verify compliance with local regulations.

  • Submittal review for Plumbing equipment, fixtures, piping, etc.

  • Provide site observations during the design and installation of plumbing systems and components.

  • Respond to Request for Information (RFIs) that arise during construction.

​

Qualifications:

  • 5 + years’ experience in Plumbing design.

  • Knowledge of international codes, and state building codes and standards.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Experience with Autodesk Design Software (AutoCAD, Revit).

  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu.

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering under an ABET accredited engineering curriculum a plus but not required.

  • A Professional Engineer license in the State of North Carolina a plus but not required.
